Akvo returns to Stockholm World Water Week later this month. It’s the sixth time we have played a role at this event – which annually draws in many of the world’s experts who focus on tackling global water and sanitation issues. This year we are leading one workshop and participating in another, as well as holding a mingle evening like last year, at the Dutch Embassy. You can also find us at the Dutch WASH Alliance stand in the exhibition area, where we’ll demonstrate Akvo’s software and services.

Open data systems for water and sanitation

Tuesday 28 Aug. 9.00-10:30, room T6 (session runs on until 13:00)

Akvo is hosting a Tuesday morning session focused on open data. We have a really interesting set of lightning talks from practitioners in the field covering data journalism, harvesting offline data and modern field data collection systems. The talks are followed by a workshop oriented question and answer session and an opportunity to talk directly to people from organisations with real world experience on open data and its use in water and sanitation. Immediately after our session, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) will be exploring knowledge systems in agriculture. The session title in the programme is Going Open: www.agriwaterpedia.info and Open Data Systems for Water and Sanitation.

Judge us by our outcomes

Tuesday 28 Aug. 14.00-17.30, room K23

In the afternoon Akvo is participating in a session called Judge Us By Our Outcomes, where Water for People brings together organisations which are changing the landscape of how water and sanitations problems are being tackled, in particular in how the reporting and monitoring is being done.

Dutch Embassy event

For the second year running, we’re organising a reception at the Dutch Embassy in Stockholm city, in conjunction with Netherlands Water Partnership, IRC, Aqua for All and the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It’s a beautiful venue and it was great fun seeing so many interesting people at last year’s event – I hope you all return again and bring interesting new people too. The event is on Wednesday 29 August from 19.00 until 21.30. The event is by invitation and if you want to get an invitation to the event, please email Lissy van Noort: lissy@akvo.org

Thomas Bjelkeman is a co-director at Akvo.
