You don’t need a super-duper video camera to post a video update on Akvo RSR. But if you happen to win one in our competition, no doubt you’ll be posting them every chance you get!

The prize – a Flip Video Ultra HD Camcorder

This easy-to-use, pocket-sized camcorder with one-touch recording and 2x digital zoom can capture up to 120 minutes of HD video on its 8 GB of built-in memory. It has a handy flip-out USB arm that plugs directly into your computer to launch FlipShare software, while built-in software lets you edit, e-mail or upload video to the internet. At Akvo we use these camcorders all the time and we think they’re great.

How to win it

The winner will be the person who our staff here judge to have created the best Akvo RSR video update between now and January 31st 2012. When you’ve posted your update on your project page, make sure you send an email to partners@akvo.org with a link to its location on Akvo RSR. Put “video competition entry” in the subject header.

Film something interesting related to a project on Akvo RSR that you’re involved in and post it as an update on the project page. It could be an interview with someone involved in making stuff happen, or someone who has experienced a benefit of the project – maybe a workshop attendee or someone has a new rope pump in their village. It could even be a walk-through tour of the project site. It need only be a few seconds and it must not be longer than three minutes. We’re not looking for professional quality – it doesn’t need to be slickly edited or produced, but it should help bring to life the project or its impact. A single-take shoot on your video-enabled mobile phone with no edits, graphics or text is perfectly fine. Just make sure it’s both interesting and informative – something you yourself would want to watch.
