She also co-leads the expansion of Akvo in Latin America and advises software development based on M&E needs. Ethel joined Akvo after working in the United States, South Asia and Latin America, including roles as M&E advisor to the Honduran Ministry of Health’s HIV/AIDS programme and supporting South Asia’s Community of Evaluators through work with the International Development Research Centre.

Ethel started her career in the food security sector where she soon learned the power of data and evidence-based story telling in shifting paradigms and improving project implementation. This led her to honing in on research, monitoring and evaluation skills during her graduate studies in Public and Non Profit Management at New York University and to pursuing jobs that would allow her to unveil the stories behind data. She is fluent in English and Spanish, enjoys cooking and reading, and recently completed a yoga teacher certification programme. Follow her @ethelnmc.
