Availability of safe drinking water is very essential for human health; however, it is hard to get safe water in urban poor communities. The use of unsafe water causes diarrheal and various types of water borne diseases that can lost many lives and economy and is more prolonged during rainy seasons.
With the objective of creating awareness on importance of safe drinking water, an orientation training program on household level drinking water purification technique (POU option) organized in eight selected slums and squatter communities of Birendranagar Municipality from 6th August to 3rd September under SWASH Project. More than 453 community people trained on different POU options like filter, biosand-filter, boiling, sodis, and chlorination with practical demonstration.” We have trained 453 people who are member of mother groups and TLOs member from slums and squatter community in drinking water purification techniques”- said Sita Chaudhary, Community Mobilizer from ENPHO. “During rainy seasons, the incidence of dirrheal and water borne diseases is very high so we had distributed 1000 Piyush + chlorine solution in 1000 households to reduce such incidence at that community”- she added.
