20-Sep-2012, by Iryna Novak, UNDP, via web
views
Volunteers filled truck trailer with Solidago canadensis plants. That was one of the results of environmental action “Let’s clean Minsk from invasive plants!”. The event was organized by UNDP/GEF project “Biodiversity” to underline threat of Solidago canadensis spreading in Belarus.
Solidago canadensis and other invasive species spread aggressively and displace local flora. In Solidago canadensis habitats number of other plants quickly decreases from 30-50 to 3-5. In Belarusian list of most threatening plants it takes position #2 (after Heracléum sosnówskyi which hurts people).
