Young people are the driving force of fight against HIV worldwide, and Uzbekistan is no exception. “Kamolot” Youth movement as a Project sub-recipient carries out activities all across the country to raise awareness and advocate. Thousands of young people are reached with prevention services through peer education, mini-sessions and informational-educational activities.
Recent event, held in Samarkand city gathered together 5000 young people against HIV, drug abuse and tobacco smoking. Boys and girls talked excitedly about eliminating these dangers, particularly threatening young people. Those with artistic talents expressed their views and emotions in drawing, and the drawing contest boasted sincere and powerful statements in art. Drama and stage scenes, prepared by young people demonstrated their readiness to further spread the word and advocate among their peers. Sweet sounds of national musical instruments – karnay and soornay added cheer and high spirit to the event.
This event is one of the drops that make up the sea of comprehensive prevention works among young people, carried out in the country. Awareness raising on HIV and related issues – drug abuse, tobacco smoking together with advocacy of healthy lifestyles are expected to bring their fruit in securing health of the future of the country – young people.
