We’re changing some of the roles around at Akvo in early 2014.
This is built around our desire to grow through a process of decentralising, building out our teams and capabilities in key hubs across the world. There are now more than 1500 organisations across the globe using our tools, we have a strong network of key partners and a really diverse team working across many cultures.
First, Peter van der Linde is moving to South East Asia to support the set up and expansion of our regional hubs – specifically in Asia and South East Asia, a huge region with great potential. He’ll initially be working from Indonesia. Peter’s a co-founder of Akvo and has been at the centre of the organisation, as one of two co-directors, since Akvo was first conceived more than seven years ago. Peter has led our partnership development and overseen the establishment of our team and processes in the Netherlands, as well as driving our shift towards decentralised hubs. In addition to his new role, he will continue to play an important strategic part in the overall development of Akvo.
With Peter no longer in the Netherlands, his responsibilities will be taken over by Jeroen van der Sommen, who will become (Partner) Director. Kathelyne van den Berg will become Chief Financial Officer.
Jeroen has had a number of roles in Akvo – he and Thomas Bjelkeman sparked off the Akvo phonemonen in 2006 when Jeroen was managing director of the Netherlands Water Partnership, and he went on to become our chairman for several years. For the past 18 months, Jeroen has been part of the full-time management team, leading our partnerships with governments and multilateral institutions such as UN agencies. Now as partner director, he’ll continue driving that process while also taking over responsibility in Amsterdam.
Kathelyne has played a crucial role in Akvo’s development since 2009, and she will assume the role of chief financial officer. She’ll supervise financial processes and provide operational and programmatic support to the organisation, determining cost effectiveness of services and programmes.
Together with Thomas Bjelkemen-Pettersson, Jeroen and Kathelyne will form the board of the Akvo Foundation Netherlands.
