Guneet Narula is a technical officer with the Akvo’s South Asia hub. In this role, he is responsible for providing technical partnership support and helping train partners on Akvo tools and data management. Prior to joining Akvo, Guneet spent six years working as an information technology consultant, using open source tools mostly for web development projects. His work reflects his keen interest in sociopolitical movements and how open source, open data and open access intersect with them.
For the past few years, Guneet has been working with social activists to highlight the concerns of people affected by the Bhopal gas tragedy. Guneet has volunteered for OpenStreetMap, mapping Nepal after the earthquake and coordinating related activities in Delhi in days following the tragedy. He is also actively involved in the Delhi Datameet group and has helped organise Open Data Camps in Delhi. Apart from this he has managed web development for Youth Ki Awaaz and The Sarai Programme at the Centre for Studies of Developing Societies among others.
Guneet is a self-taught information technology professional. His academic background is in CGI and film-making as he pursued a B.Sc in Animation and Multimedia from the Birla Institute of Technology in 2009. Guneet likes to travel and in his free time likes to experiment with Android and Linux. He is based in Delhi. Follow him @guneetnarula.
